Javier and I went back to the sprawling Sunday market where we bought our ‘Casio’ watches before Christmas, as for some unfathomable reason his watch broke after a couple of weeks, and he wanted to buy a new one.
There, I spotted this old lady, sitting outside her Ford Transit van (modern day caravan), surrounded by sacks of onions and potatoes. It was very cold, she was very old, and this was how she spent her Sundays, trying to make money selling vegetables to other gypsies (and me and Javier) – surely not a very lucrative business. Still there she was, looking down at her stock, maybe imagining that amongst her spuds and onions she would find wealth and the keys to a richer life. Or maybe not..!!
